Blacks match is a tool for matching the toe portion of the film response.

This is essentially a soft rolloff clamp for the blacks. It has controls for how far above the picked black point the roll off stops and therefor no longer affects the image as well as how soft it is. Reducing the softness is not physically correct for film response, but can help to nudge back some lost detail.
