If you're working with a large timeline, a lot of your RAM is going to be consumed by the viewer's RAM cache.

At the point at which you go to do a transcode export, this RAM is held by the viewer and not cleared, (so that you can continue editing with cached frames)

Generally though, when you export, you don't care too much about the timeline, and you want to focus the machine's resources into exporting.

This little snippet clears the Viewer cache prior to raising the Export dialog. The advantage of doing this for a local Nuke transcode is that you will regain some extra memory resources, and combined with setting Preferences > Nuke / Export > 'Do not limit Nuke' option, you should get better transcode times.

Usage: Copy to ~/.hiero/Python/Startup

Note: This will clear all your Viewer caches every time the Export dialog is raised - NOT prior to transcoding.
