Wow!
I consider myself an artist first and foremost. I came into VFX just 4 years ago, so I'm still "adjusting" to the medium.
It is wonderful to realize that I approach things in VFX pretty much as you described it and feel about the artistic side of things are sort of put aside. I wish the industry wasn't in such a disarray so I could keep growing in it.

I have written this article ages ago, but I feel it's more-or-less still our zeitgeist. My English has slightly improved since, but I am not going to fix the obvious things in this article as it's a time-capsule of my thoughts at the time. Things surprisingly didn't change a lot in 5 years.

I have moved on from one facility to another, expanded my skill-set as nature of our business commandst, and today I work mostly in VFX creative direction and on flames, and almost exclusively in the commercial world, especially since moving to Europe.

But the same ideas 100% apply. Art is all that matters, and I am humbled by the fantastic feedback from all over the world.
