Here are some animated roto shapes used as sprites to create the ol' flock-of-birds to lifen up boring plates.

Kinda fun.

hah!NICE!
I just made a scene full of butterflies 2 or 3 days ago by using particles in nuke.Using 2 sequences of images as sprites. We meet the same idea.I am very glad to successfully doing something by myself and have a wonderful result. Thanks for sharing ideas and technology:D.

Is it only for Nuke 7? Because my nuke 6.3 always crashes when importing or opening the script :/

0 # Frank Rueter 2012-11-25 16:07
yes, this was done in Nuke7. The roto node is not backwards compatible, sorry.

this is exactly what I need for a shot, is there any chance for a version for nuke 6.3?

Please make a 6.3 version! It would be a killer asset for a TV show with lots of wide open shots with plain sky.

oh boy, you are asking me to roto those birds again from scratch. will try and see if I can somehow convert the existing splines tonight

0 # XIAObao CHAN 2012-11-26 20:10
:-) Can rotoshapes be converted to Beziers in Nuke 7? Maybe it will be exciting to copy those beziers into nuke 6.3 and the lower version.

It should be possible to write a python script to convert the shapes. I will have a look tonight.

hey Frank!
did you manually re-do the roto for the 6.3 version manually? i just saw in the release notes of 7.0v1 that there is a python function to convert nuke scripts to v6 format. i tried it but unfortunately nuke is telling me it can't import the rotopaint module (the one that's supposed to contain the function convertToNuke6) because it does not exist. just wondering which way you went and maybe you were successful using that python method.

I wrote a rough python script to do it plus a little bit of manual correction after resetting the soft edges). By no means a universal solution unfortunately.
