Flare Rig - Customize and build you're own unique flares (essentially it's Video Copilot Optical Flares without the library or presets for free)

You can make your flares as photo realistic or as stylized as you you'd like.  This gizmo has all the functionality you'd desire to have in a flare, while leaving only the creative/artist aspects up to you.  

Feel free to leave comments on tweaks or features you'd like to see added.

 

*Doesn't work in Nuke 9.0v8 - 11.0v4, due to a foundry created regression bug.  Everything should work now.

Weird, It doesn't seem to output any flare. I connected BG to my background plate and the FG1 to a custom flare I made but no luck. Any thoughts?

Sorry, forgot to give instructions. There is a the BG layer, matte and Occlussion layer and 5 inputs for flare elements F1-F5. You're elements should be in the centered. If I get some time this week I'll create a sample script. Let me know if you're still having issues.

Awesome! Really cool and easy to use! Is it possible to have even more F-inputs for really complex flares? I just started layering them as usual and then connected the layered flare-parts to the flare rig to build a really complex one. Greetings!

I know what you mean, but at a certain point it just gets to over the top. There are to additional replications, per F-input, at the bottom of each, so that you can reuse the same input and manipulate it in different ways, to help create the layered more complex flares.

I totally love this thing! I had some flare images laying around and now I can put them to use! I really love the way the Occlusion works! GREAT JOB, and thank you so much for sharing! Cant wait for an other crazy ideas you have.

Wasn't getting any flares so tried the example scene but no luck. I"m using Nuke 10v4 and wondering if anyone else has had any issues? Looks like a great tool.

Nuke 10 has a bug which causes an error with this gizmo.
The sample command in the flare scale transform nodes is not able to sample the occlusion input.

This is a regression bug, which started in 9.0v8. In other words the foundry broke something that has worked for years. The bug ID is 199893 if you'd like to add your voice to getting it fixed earlier. Their target release for a fix is Nuke 11.0v4
