Comments (17)(dreaming here) an Iterator/Loop node.

hello ! did somebody find a way to create this loop thing with the exploit from the blink script buffer ? Do you know if Xavier is still working on it ? Thanks a lot

I created a little toolset called SetLoop that copies nodes a specific amount of times inside a group and has some other features as well: http://www.nukepedia.com/toolsets/other/setloop

But a true iterator or 'for each'-loop would be nice indeed

I share that dream too..... :)

Ah, I see. Shame that I’m on Non-Commercial at home, and can’t really do anything like that…

In Shake you could justwrite a for loop (or whatever) directlry int ot the macro file, which was awesome. However, it was a paint to go from macro to group and back, which is super simple in Nuke. And once you get into the swing of things regarding callbacks, it's not that hard to write in Nuke either.

Was it though? I used a bit of Shake before Nuke, but didn’t stumble upon any node that did that, and can’t find anything similar in the docs. How was the node called?

This is something that was so, so easy in Shake, and seemingly really hard in Nuke :(

Nice explanation. Precisely, that was what I was missing, a way of feeding the result of each iteration onto the next one. I hope we can see something solid like that soon… :)

Well, yes it actually is a for loop. But you can have an accumulative loop or a feedback loop. Accumulative loops are easy, and can create great exponential blurs and glows, volumetric rendering in nuke, chromatic aberration distortions, ZDefocus, etc. It is something much nodes are actually using (such as the VectorBlur) and that I use in many of my tools.

The second type would be a feedback loop, where instead of merging each iteration, it applies the same filter/effect multiple times, just like copy pasting an effect. To my knowledge, this is something that can only be done by duplicating the nodes multiple times (something which is done inside of those groups), and that is something with 90% of the times crashes nuke. While I was working on the X_Flow fluid simulation I had to be very smart on how I set up the iterations, because duplicating [More...]a+Matrix+node+50+to+100+times+suddenly+crashes+nuke+in+some+machines+%28and+it+has+nothing+to+do+with+not+enough+RAM%29.%3Cbr+%2F%3E%0A%3Cbr+%2F%3E%0ASo%2C+yeah%2C+they%27re+both+for+loops+which+can+be+used+for+different+things.+The+first+one+works+and+it+is+stable.+The+second+one+is+done+with+python+callbacks%2C+and+if+you+put+something+heavy+such+as+a+ZDefocus+Nuke+will+probably+crash.+But+it%27s+a+WIP%21+%3Cimg+src%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nukepedia.com%2Fcomponents%2Fcom_jvotesystem%2Fassets%2Fimages%2Fbbcode%2Fsmiles%2Fsmile.gif%22+style%3D%22margin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bborder%3A0+none%3B%22+alt%3D%22%3A%29%22+%2F%3E%3Cbr+%2F%3E%0A%3Cbr+%2F%3E%0AAnd+yeah%2C+please+The+Foundry%2C+make+that+happen+anyway%21%21%21%21%21%21%21%21%21%21+%3Cimg+src%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nukepedia.com%2Fcomponents%2Fcom_jvotesystem%2Fassets%2Fimages%2Fbbcode%2Fsmiles%2Flaugh.gif%22+style%3D%22margin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bborder%3A0+none%3B%22+alt%3D%22%3AD%22+%2F%3E
