The bilateral filter allows you to blur an image while preserving more pronouced details. Nuke has a very slow one that makes it pretty useless.
Here is my attempt at creating a better one. It is based on Blinkscript and thus can be very fast if you enable GPU calculation

As any regular blur you can increase the size to increase the effect
uncheck the 2 linear boxes to get stronger effect ( ie. box filtering)
if you uncheck “absolute color color compare” more detail will be preserved in the dark areas of the image.
