A distant bloom setup for CG renders that I have used a lot lately on a sequence of full CG film shots, to create blooms on far away edges and highlights - for instance on distant CG hills/mountains renders, to make them look more convincing and life-like. Mask it with a Roto or - a lot better - with a Z-Depth pass or a Position pass, graded and shuffled into an Alpha.
