The gizmo works by using a convolution matrix to essentially do an angle specific edge detect. If wanted a ST-map based distortion can be applied that wraps the rim light more realistically around the plate detail.
It works best when you have a hard roto for the object that you want to apply the rim to and in general works well with clothing or high contrast plates.
