USDSubD is a high-performance C++ plugin that brings native Catmull-Clark subdivision surfacing to Nuke’s USD architecture.
When working with complex USD assets in Nuke, artists often encounter low-poly proxy cages that lack the refinement needed for close-up renders. USDSubD solves this by leveraging Foundry’s built-in OpenSubdiv libraries to cleanly multiply and smooth geometry directly in the nodegraph.
Why use this over standard tessellation? Standard subdivision often destroys texture coordinates by pulling apart UV seams. USDSubD includes specific logic to map and flatten UVs into Face-Varying arrays before tessellation. This guarantees C0 continuity across boundaries, meaning your character and environment textures stay perfectly pinned to the newly generated topology.
