This tool lets you take any channel (r,g,b,a) and create a hard alpha by a custom threshold. This way for example you can select any value of an alpha channel that is higher than 0.2 and automatically get an alpha for it.
Also it lets you select a certain range. You could select any red value that is 0.2 and set a custom range of values to be selected around it (similar to z slize).
It is great to animate infection maps or artistic blends/transitions using a noise.
